2012 Bangalore Winter
Winter has made a glorious comeback from last friday 13-Jan. As of now
the day temperature is around 28 and 29 centigrade. Night temperature
is more unpredictable, ranging from 13 to 16 centigrade. Minimum
temperature is recorded early in the morning close to 4 am or 5am. As a
result you get to find cold mornings. WARNING: The difference between
Max and Min temperature is almost 12 or 13 centigrade. It can easily
lead to health problems. Protect yourself from the chill wearing warm
clothes.
Annual Bangalore Climate Data
Bangalore experiences a tropical savanna climate (Köppen climate classification Aw) with distinct wet and dry
seasons. Due to its high elevation, Bangalore usually enjoys a more
moderate climate throughout the year, although occasional heat waves
can make things very uncomfortable in the summer.[37]
The coolest month is January with an average low temperature of 15.1 °C
and the hottest month is April with an average high temperature of
33.6 °C.[38]
The highest temperature ever recorded in Bangalore is 38.9 °C(recorded
in March 1931) and the lowest ever is 7.8 °C (recorded in January 1884).[39][40]
Winter temperatures rarely drop below 12 °C (54 °F), and summer
temperatures seldom exceed 34–35 °C (<100 °F). Bangalore receives
rainfall from both the northeast and the southwest monsoons and the wettest months are September, October and August, in that order.[38] The summer heat is moderated by fairly frequent thunderstorms,
which occasionally cause power outages and local flooding. The heaviest
rainfall recorded in a 24-hour period is 179 millimetres (7.0 in)
recorded on 1 October 1997.[41]
As you can see from the box, bangalore receives 969.8 millimeters every year. Considering the average max temperature of the city ranges from 28 to 33 C, climate is truly soothing. Rains start as early as April and lasts all the way till November.
My observation:
Jan to march end: No rain. Very boring
April and May : Some days of violent rain. Rain comes from the East. Good fun.
June: Monsoon starts. Not much rain. Very cloudy days with light drizzle. Weather comes from west. Windy weather.
July : Consistent days of light rain. Weather comes from west. Windy weather.
Aug: Consistent days of light rain. Weather comes from west. Windy weather.
Sep: Moderate rain on some days. Weather comes from west.
Oct: Bangalore gets the highest rain this month.Consistent rain for the first 15 days. Weather for the first 15 days comes in from practically all directions. Post 15th of Oct weather comes in from East.
Nov: Not much rain. Winter sets in. Incase any weather system crosses TN, we get rain.
